Cemetery History

St Justin Martyr Parish Cemetery is a gift from God.

When we purchased our land in May 2001 we did not plan to have a parish cemetery. While developing the site plan with the architects having a cemetery was not a consideration. In the summer of 2004 construction began on our property. During that time we discovered that we had the space to have the first Orthodox Parish Cemetery in Florida.

When we purchased the ten acre plot, we thought we had only six buildable acres. After the land was surveyed we discovered we had eight buildable acres for the price of six buildable acres! As it turned out, unbeknownst to us, the original site plan had space for a cemetery designed into it behind the future sanctuary, as if God had planned it.

We asked for and received a blessing from Archbishop Dmitri and applied for and received a zoning exception for a 2 acre cemetery in January 2005. We moved into our new parish property on April 10th, 2005.

On May 14, 2005 Archbishop Dmitri of blessed memory consecrated the parish cemetery and the next day Vladyka consecrated our new Temple.

St Justin Martyr Parish Cemetery is designed by and developed under the guidance of cemetery professionals.
